Frameless Shower Door and enclosures do not have any metal framing around the glass. Panels are held in place by clips, hinges, and caulk joints. 3/8” or 1/2” thick glass must be used to achieve the necessary rigidity and stability.

You don't have to worry about this with frameless doors, however, as they have no seals. With no metal frame and minimal hardware, there's also less of a risk of corrosion, which in turn means less of a likelihood that the door will have to be replaced in time

Frameless Shower Door are more expensive than framed shower doors because of increased material costs and increased installation costs. Since there is no framing to support the glass in a frameless shower door, the glass itself must create the structural strength, therefore it must be thicker.
